The New 'Toy'

SHRIEK!! A scream likened to a siren blasted pass the hallways. The surprised family of five flicked their heads towards the sound.

She pointed to a horribly oversized cockroach on the floor, its antennas disgustingly waving in the air. After banishing each and every one into the depths of the dank drain sealed so tight, one still appearred IN the house!

Perhaps the scream had frightened it as well, for it started crawling away. At least, it tried too, for the two family kittens were mischievously toying the insect.

"Oh a new toy!" They must have thought, and busily batted it with their paws.

The felines were too young then, I suppose, to realise that their claws were fashioned to injure. Slowly but surely, the waving antennas ceased to function. So did its body.

While the crime scene was being covered up, the girl looked at the kittens, the same ones whom the family had found, fed and taken care of. The same ones who broke vases, tore up important documents, and raced around the house, over everything.

"You did some good now." She thought.

As the two kittens hopped out from the window, the girl watched them strut away, recalling the incident that vindicated them.

Little did she know (until several weeks later) that as she did, the felines had gone into the drain to explore once more, looking for a new toy to bring home.

PS. I may have exaggerated about the size.
